Het is nu 20 juni en vandaag ga ik de oude stad Khiva verkennen. Het is heel indrukwekkend om hier te zijn en de kaart van de zijderoute te zien. Ook ga ik vandaag proberen of ik voor het vervolg van de reis weer ergens aan dollars kan komen. Pinnen bestaat hier nog niet en ook in Iran en Turkmenistan kun je niks met een credit kaart. Het zal niet meevallen maar toch maar proberen. Na lang zoeken is er een bank die het wel doet maar wel met 3% provisie. Ik kan ze eigenlijk geen ongelijk geven. Zo, ik kan weer even vooruit.
Vroeger, tijdens de zijderoute van Khiva een beruchte plaats. Er werden hier op grote schaal slaven verhandeld. Mede door dit en de strategische ligging groeide Khiva uit tot een rijke en machtige stad. Khiva heeft ruim 50 Unesco Monumenten in haar binnenstad. De foto’s geven daar een impressie van.
